Better known only by Gordillo. If you talk about Spanish soccer, the name of Gordillo is a must. He is a star, he shines with his own light. He is among the best players in the history of international soccer. He is the only Spanish player (with the exception of Alfredo Di Stéfano) included in the list of the 30 best players of the 20th century by France Football, chosen by previous winners of the Ballon d'Or, an award given by the magazine. Real Betis Balompié and Real Madrid marked his professional career. He was international with Spain on 75 occasions. He made his debut with the Spanish National Team in 1978 in a match against Norway. He played in the 1982 and 1986 World Cups and the 1980 and 1984 European Championships. The player holds the record for consecutive matches (51) for a field player with the national team. He was several times nominated for the Ballon d'Or.

He was born in Almendralejo, a few decades earlier in 1957. His family was originally from Seville, where he later settled. He was trained in the lower categories of Real Betis Balompié, although he made his debut in the first team at just 20 years old against Burgos. Nine were the seasons that he remained in the Verdiblanco team from 1976/1977 to 1984/1985, the team in which he played the longest. During this period he played 237 league games where he scored 18 goals. With Gordillo the team ranked for five seasons among the top six in the league. To this day, the left back holds the record for the highest number of consecutive games played.

During 1985/1986 he was transferred to Real Madrid, being at that time one of the star signings. With the white shirt he played a total of 182 league games, scored 20 goals and won 10 titles. He was one of the outstanding figures of that Madrid that was called "La Quinta del Buitre" by the Butragueño player, also configured by: Manolo Sanchís, Michel, Martín Vázquez, Hugo Sánchez, Camacho, Paco Buyo, Fernando Hierro and Schuster and other players .

With his return to Real Betis Balompié, the team went up to the first division again, and later qualified the team for the UEFA Cup. In 1995 he signed for Écija, who played in second division A, a team that would end up ascending. That's when he hung up his boots. After his retirement, he was part of the Real Madrid technical secretariat as team delegate. Subsequently, he served as sports director of Écija. In 2012 he became the first president of the Real Betis Foundation and director of external and institutional relations.

One of his best memories of his profession: “The first hymn that was played to me outside of Spain always comes to mind, and for me it was the greatest. You are outside your country, knowing that you are going to be televised, that all the Spaniards are watching you and wearing that shirt. One of the greatest things that have happened to me."

Gordillo is also a player of our Solidarity Dream Team. Thank you, Gordillo, for giving your image to our charitable cause, that an athlete with your career supports us, it is an honor.
