During his tenure as Spain coach he achieved good results, leading the Spanish team to practice a very good game reaching the quarterfinals in the World Cup in Korea and Japan in 2002.

As a footballer, he reached the maximum goal being an absolute international with the Spanish National Team for no less than thirteen years 1975/1988, in which he reached 81 games, a figure that was for a long time an absolute record for participations. In addition, he was part of two World Cups (Spain 1982-Mexico 1986) and two Euro Cups (France 1984-Germany 1988). He made his debut with the Spanish team in 1975, in a match that ended in a draw between Spain and Scotland (1-1).

His courage, character and delivery on the field made him one of the greatest exponents of the so-called Fury (the Spanish team). After his time with the national team, he coached Benfica for almost two seasons, winning a Portuguese Cup. In addition, he coached Rayo Vallecano de Madrid, which he managed to promote to the first division.

Subsequently, he directed Real Club Deportivo Espanyol in four seasons (divided into two stages), where he left a great mark. He also directed Sevilla. In the summer of 1998, he signed for Real Madrid Club de Fútbol, although he resigned before taking office. In the 2008/2009 season, as Osasuna's coach for 32 days, he achieved the objective of the Navarrese team remaining in the highest category of Spanish football. In 2011, he was signed to coach the Chinese national team with the aim of qualifying it for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. Later, he announced that he would be the new coach of the Gabon national team. He participated in the Africa Cup.

The footballer spent his entire career in the white team: Real Madrid Club de Fútbol. (1974/1989), being the third player at the time of his retirement in history with a total of 577 games, 414 of them in the first division. It all starts at the age of 16, when he joins Atlético Jareño. Later he made the leap to the youth team of Albacete Balompié, where he lines up as a left winger. His name begins to sound strongly in football circles and they claim him for the Spanish youth team. His command of the ball, and his brilliant performance favored his entry into Albacete, which was then in the first regional.

Camacho leans towards the white team. In 1973, Real Madrid signed him for its subsidiary team: Castilla. The takeoff from him was immediate. In the following season he made his debut in the first team and quickly gained a position in the Madrid defense. His hallmark was his spirit of sacrifice and dedication, in addition to his desire for victory and charisma, along with one of the essential values for this sport: teamwork. In 1978 he suffered a serious injury during training, although he managed to return to the pitch until he withdrew at the end of the 1988/1989 campaign.

Camacho recalled his beginnings in this profession: “The footballer was helpless. They all looked at the players from Real Madrid and the Spanish National Team, but the rest had no guarantees of anything”. He referred to the few privileges of soccer players at that time: “We did not have social security. We had medical insurance from Real Madrid. Fortunately things have changed."
